How it Was Born

It was my father’s birthday that I first picked up a needle, a few threads and quite a large embroidery hoop! I was home and relatively free so I looked up on YouTube and started to embroider a bouquet of roses tied together with a green string and a text that said, “Happy Birthday, Papa!” He was so happy with receiving this gift that he continues to keep it in his briefcase and carries it with him literally everywhere!

Documentary filmmaking can be a tough job given you are working with real people’s very difficult realities of life. It can seep into your own life if you don’t place certain boundaries. I struggled to maintain distance with the people I filmed until I started embroidering. Embroidery became my counterbalance. A way to process what I had heard and seen while filming, through colors and textures of cotton threads! Each loop I was forming allowed me to be more at peace.

The First Pendant

I created my first wearable piece in October 2023. I learned embroidery basics from YouTube tutorials, starting with small flowers that were too beautiful not to share. I created floral bookmarks and an "S" for a friend. The therapeutic process of making something with my own hands instead hooked me completely.

Wedding Gifts

My wedding became the perfect opportunity to give my creations as gifts to friends. It was my first time making so many pieces by hand and setting them onto a pendant but what a challenge that was! I eventually gifted each piece as a return gift to my friends at my wedding and it made me SO happy!

About The Artist

Hello! I’m Priyanka of Tales From My Loop. I am a filmmaker and I love to embroider. I leaned into the craft as it helped me heal in a whole different way than other forms of self help and self care. As my love for embroidery grew, I wanted to share my pieces with my family and friends. I learned to turn my embroidered pieces into wearable pendants. Seeing them wear these pieces has been my motivation to make more pieces that can be shared as gifts. Making tiny, dainty, little things is my favorite. I truly believe that it is the little things in life that are capable of making us feel a lot of joy only if we stop to appreciate them.
